Hitch Mylius is founded by Tristram and Hazel Mylius, and John Hitch.
(John Hitch leaves the company several years later to live abroad).
Classic designs
hm11 and hm31 are designed by Tristram Mylius. Both designs are
revised over the next 30 years (eventually becoming hm16
and hm33), but the basic
concept is in continuous production to the present day.

Mylius supplies Liberty of London's modern furniture department.
hm11 is an instant hit.

The Conran Shop opens in London, selling hm31.
|
| 1976 |
The company moves to larger premises in north London, and employs
more staff.

| 1989 |
The Salamander sofa, designed by Sarah-Jane Wakely, is launched
(later to become hm294),
and is selected by The Conran Shop.

hm28, the definitive tub
chair, is designed by Tristram Mylius.

| 1993 |
hm40, designed by Gill
McLean, is launched at Spectrum, in London.
The Conran Shop stocks hm40, and it becomes their best selling sofa.

| 1994 |
Branson Coates Architecture designs the Hotel Maritimo, in Otaru,
Japan. Nigel Coates designs the Tongue chair for the hotel, manufactured
by Hitch Mylius.
Nigel Coates
also designs the Slipper chair, in collaboration with Hitch Mylius.

| 1995 |
The company outgrows its present premises, and purchases Alma House
in Enfield.
The Pike Practice is commissioned to transform the 1950s building
into a modern factory and showroom (Architects' Journal - 28 September
1995).
Tristram and
Hazel are invited to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in recognition
of Hitch Mylius' contribution to the regeneration of the Enfield
area, and local employment.

hm25 is launched, designed
by Fred Scott.
Hitch Mylius
exhibit at 100% Design in London for the first time.

| 1997 |
In November, Hitch Mylius is asked by the government to furnish
an office at Canary Wharf Tower for the visiting President Chirac,
during the Anglo French Summit.
A large contract
is won to furnish BZW's offices at Canary Wharf.

| 1998 |
Tristram is invited to attend a reception at No.10 Downing Street.
March: the Oyster House, designed by Branson Coates Architecture,
is built at the Ideal Home Exhibition. The Oyster House wins the RIBA-administered
international Concept House competition to design an estate house
for the 21st Century. A full scale, furnished house is erected at
the exhibition, containing a collection of furniture and home accessories
designed by Nigel Coates specially for this signature house, including
Oxo seating for Hitch Mylius.
Oxo is put into production
by Hitch Mylius.
May: Purves
& Purves hold an exhibition of British furniture design, An Englishman
at Home, which includes Oxo
and hm16 from Hitch Mylius,
alongside designs by Jasper Morrison, Matthew Hilton and Terence Woodgate.

David Chipperfield approaches Hitch Mylius to produce some seating
designs for a private client. From the original concept, hm991
is developed and launched at 100% Design in September.
The first large
order for hm991 is placed
by The New Millennium Experience Company, through Coexistence, to
furnish the VIP areas at the Millennium Dome.
BBC's Anne McKevitt
uses Oxo seating in house builder Mactaggart & Mickel's Home
of the Future, as part of Glasgow's City of Architecture and Design.
hm991 is exhibited at Coexistence, London.
An agent is
appointed for France.

Hitch
Mylius work on the refurbishment of the Royal Court Theatre, London.
hm992,
designed by David Chipperfield is launched at 100% Design.
Avanti Architects
specify Hitch Mylius seating for the new ACAD unit at the Central
Middlesex Hospital.
Special furniture
is designed, in collaboration with United Designers, for the Philippe
Starck designed Four Seasons hotel at Canary Riverside, London.
Creative Britain
- The Festival of British Media and Design - takes place at the
Stilwerk Design Centre in Hamburg. Hitch Mylius is invited to exhibit
David Chipperfield's hm991
and Nigel Coates' Oxo.
Hitch Mylius
participates in the Copenhagen furniture fair, in collaboration
with furniture dealer Designstation.

| 2001 |
The British Council invite Hitch Mylius to participate in Home Sweet
Home, an exhibition celebrating contemporary British designers'
approach to the creation of domestic environments and products for
the home. The exhibition will be shown at the Kulturhuset in Stockholm
during March, before moving to the Oeksnehallen in Copenhagen, Denmark,
during April and June, and then to the Museum of Art and Design
in Helsinki, Finland in September.
hm30, designed by Shin
and Tomoko Azumi is launched at 100% Design.
hm30
wins the FX International Design Award for Best Furniture in the
General Product Design category.
